Grew up in Rock Island, Illinois with a family of 3 talented siblings. Coached by my father Gary Ackerson. 3 Time All State swimmer and HS All-American in the 50 Free. Illinois State Champion in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle runner up. 1978 named Illinois Swimmer of the year. Inducted into the Rocky Hall of Fame in 1980. In 2018 selected as the female athlete of the 70s for Rock Island High School. Played ASA fast pitch Softball for the Rock Island Rookies as pitcher that won the National Championship in 1978. After ISU, met my husband Randy in 1982 at Pioneer. Got married in 1987 and raised two awesome boys (John and Brad). Coached swimming in DesMoines with Mike Burton (who was a 2 time Olympic gold medalist). I Continued to swim in US Masters programs, coached and officiated age group swimming and announced HS swimming meets. I swam in many open water events on triathlon teams in the Midwest after collage. Eventually winning the all female relay event at the HyVee Triathlon in 2013 at age 53. Retired from Pioneer Hi-bred Int'l in 2015 after a 33 year career in Software Development, Marketing, and Research. Currently I live in Urbandale Iowa and play golf, swim, and enjoy my 5 beautiful grandchildren.
