More Information
Following my prep football career at Fairfield [lowa] High School, I signed with lowa State, where I played linebacker. A major knee injury in the 1979 Cardinal and Gold spring football game [ACL, MCL and meniscus tears] as well as subsequent injuries brought an untimely end to my career as a redshirt sophomore. Despite this setback, I remained on scholarship, completed my degree, and pursued a career in education, thanks to the support of the ISU football coaching and athletic administration staff. The support I received from Iowa State’s football coaches and athletic administration after my career-ending injury showed me the impact a strong staff and administration can have on an individual's life and moved me to provide similar support within a school setting.
