  1. Meeting my future wife during the first week of ISU marching band camp - yeah, band camp - then beginning to date almost 10 years later.
  2. ISU finally winning the Big 8 tournament (Men's Basketball)
  3. Spending 15+ years connecting with ISU alumni through the Alumni Association
    Lyndsey (Medders) Fennelly

    Jesse Klein
Director of Operations, Volleyball, 2005-2006
ISU Memory: Beating No. 18 Texas at home during my junior year. Watching the program rise over the past several years. Proud to be a Cyclone!

    Kevin Lazard
Football, 1990-1993
    Lindsey (Lees) Long
Staff Liaison and Letterwinner, Soccer, 1999-2003
ISU Memory: Beyond the season upsets and big wins we had, looking back my favorite memories come from the camaraderie built with former teammates.

Jeremy Lyons
Golf, 1999-2003
ISU Memory: The start of fall semester each year. It was a time to catch up with friends and teammates you hadn't seen all summer. Everyone had a fresh start and optimism was high for the year ahead. And nothing beats playing golf in the fall.

Melanie Heitman Nelson
Track and Field, 1979-1983
ISU Memory: We use to practice in State Gym and we really never thought much about the facility. However, since getting back to campus the last few years the improvement to the facilities has been amazing! The new rec centers, football facilities, basketball practice facilities, the new soccer, softball and track complex what improvement has been made. All the newness however does not erase the memories of State Gym and the old track complex!

Thomas Pollard
Student-Athlete Representative, Track and Field/Cross Country, R-Junior

Jeff Symons
Men’s Swimming & Diving, All American 1987
ISU Memory: I grew up in Ames so I was lucky enough to see a lot of Iowa State athletic history. I watched Basketball in the Old Armory, Football in Clyde Williams Field and saw the first games ever played in Hilton and at Jack Trice Stadium. My great Iowa State memories will always be with me but there are many more to come! Everyday is a great day to be a Cyclone!

    Bob Thompson
Wrestling, 1988-1991
ISU Memory: Beating Penn State on their home mat my senior year!
    Chris Washington
Football, 1980-1983
Hall of Fame Class of 2009
ISU Memory: Leading the team in tackles in 1981 as well as having our team ranked No. 10 in the country. Go Cyclone Nation!

    Mike Wittmer
Swimming, 1965-1969
ISU Memory: When it came to swimming, I was never more than a walk-on and Jack McGuire and Jerry Symons were kind enough to let me hang around the program for four years. I learned a great deal from both coaches and it served me very well in what I consider a very long and successful 29 year career as the head swim coach at Ames High School. I cannot stress enough the gratitude and respect I have for Jack McGuire and Jerry Symons and the impact they have had on my life and my career. I would not be where I am today without them.

Past Presidents

Judge Johnston - Immediate Past President
Football, 1987-1989
ISU Memory: Too many too list - when I look back - the overall experience of being a student-athlete at this great university was one that I will never forget. My experience with the football team, staff, and others will always bring a smile to my face. Go Cyclones!

Dan Culhane
Baseball, 1990-1993

ISU Memory: Too numerous to single one out. I continue to be amazed at how having played athletics at ISU has made life after ISU so enjoyable.

Craig Rover (2013 and 2014)
Track and Cross Country, 1981-1983

ISU Memory: Having the opportunity to train and become friends with world class runners, being part of the 1981 and 1983 Big Eight Champion Cross Country teams and forever being an ISU Letterwinner.

Jeff Gibbons (2011 and 2012)
Wrestling, 1986-1989
ISU Memory: Being an All-American on the 1987 National Championship team is a big honor! Starting my senior year half way through the season because of tearing my ACL and still winning the Big 8 conference title built my character. I was also voted outstanding wrestler at the tournament, another big honor.

Bill Marsau (2009 and 2010)
Football, 1995-1999

ISU Memory: My favorite sports memory at ISU was when we beat Iowa at Kinnick in 1998, 27-9! That snapped a 15 year losing streak to the Hawkeyes and would end up being the first of 5 straight wins over Iowa. No one gave us a chance to win that day, but we believed and not only did we beat them, we embarrassed them. I’ve never heard a stadium as silent as that one was that day. The silence was the greatest silence I have ever heard.

Ben Bruns (2007 and 2008)
Football, 1997-2000

ISU Memory: I've enjoyed a lot of great memories since becoming part of the Cyclone family in 1996. What I miss most is spending time with the guys I played with. On the field, the best memories were starting my first game at Iowa in 1998 when we ended the streak and started a new one, Okie State and Colorado in 2000 when we had huge road wins and the 2000 Insight Bowl championship. Go State!

Paul J. Schulte (2005 and 2006)
Football, 1987-1991

ISU Memory: Playing Golf with Johnny Orr in Letterwinners Club events and getting to hear “Whew Wee” stories and comments for 5 hours.

Barb Croxdale (2003 and 2004)
Softball, 1973

ISU Memory: As one of the members of the inaugural Iowa State Letterwinners Board of Directors, I am proud to see the growth in membership & the camaraderie & support that has been enhanced between alumni Letterwinners and Iowa State. Once a Cyclone, always a Cyclone!

Tom Randall (2001 and 2002)
Football, 1974-1977

ISU Memory: Being inducted into the ISU Letterwinners Hall of Fame in the fall of 2011. I’m extremely proud to join the previous Hall of Famers and proud to represent the Earle Bruce football era!

Arnie Gaarde (1997 - 2000)
Basketball and Baseball, 1952-1956

ISU Memory: Elected Co-Captain of two sports my senior year (basketball and baseball-'56). One of two ISU athletes to be so honored. First president of Letterwinners as it was re-established in 1997 by Gene Smith.
